ﻝﺒﻠﺒ ‘ﻥﺎﺘﺴﺩﺭﺍﺯﻫ

My travel fund has crossed the £1000 mark. That's not much really, but I'm pleased. It needs to be trebled in the next three months and I will do my best to ensure that happens.

I have started learning farsi. So far I can only make simple sentences. I made a terrible mistake a few days ago. I said "khoost" instead of "doost".

As for work, I have come to loathe the company that employs me. I urge people around the world not to buy Alberto-Culver products. That's the only revenge I can think of!

I am going to write a poem called 'The Parrot and the Nightingale' for my next poetry reading.

The Spanish publishing house Bibliópolis are apparently interested in reading some of my work with a view to translation and publication in Spain. I am extremely delighted by this. My love of Spanish and Latin American literature doesn't need to be emphasised again... Borges, Mutis, Marquez, Julian Rios, Felipe Alfau, Perez-Reverte, Almudena Grandes, Mario Vargas Llosa, Felisberto Hernandez, Bioy Casares, Isabel Allende, Carlos Fuentes, Cabrera Infante... There are almost too many great writers from that culture!
